but what *is* body reading?

If you’ve ever given a cue that didn’t quite land—or watched someone technically follow your instructions, but still felt something was missing—this is for you.

Body reading is one of the most under-taught, underused skills in the yoga world. But honestly? It’s everything.

It’s not about correcting people or hunting for flaws. It’s about learning how to see. To really observe how a body organizes itself—under breath, under fatigue, in stillness or motion. It’s about picking up on the subtle compensations and habitual movement patterns, then offering support that actually makes a difference.

For new students especially, yoga can feel like learning a new language while trying to move through a maze. But when we know how to read the room—and the bodies in it—we can offer support that makes people feel seen, not singled out. And that’s what keeps them coming back.

That’s what body reading gives us: clearer cues, smarter (and often totally unnecessary) adjustments, and a deeper understanding of what our students actually need. Not just what the sequence says is next.

Because great teaching isn’t about sticking to a plan. It’s about responding to what’s right in front of you.

I’m hosting a live, in-person Body Reading & Teaching Adjustments training this August 21-24th in Seattle. Whether you’re brand new to teaching or you’ve been doing this for years, this one will change the way you see bodies—and teach yoga—forever.

Hope to see you there. Come curious :)
